Wildland Fire Pro is a field reference and fire-weather logging tool built for wildland firefighters. This page covers what happens to your data and what you're agreeing to by using the app.

Plain-language summary

  • Wildland Fire Pro does not collect, transmit, or sell your data. There are no servers.
  • Everything you enter — weather logs, notes, IRPG reference activity — stays in a local database on your device.
  • Location and motion-sensor access are optional, used only when you tap a capture button to tag a reading with GPS coordinates or estimate slope/aspect — those values are stored locally like everything else, never transmitted anywhere.
  • No accounts, no analytics, no ad tracking, no third-party SDKs.
  • If you export or print a log, that only happens because you tapped Share or Print, and you pick the destination.

Information we collect

Wildland Fire Pro is designed to run entirely offline. The app does not operate a backend server, does not require you to create an account, and has no mechanism to transmit anything you enter, capture, or record to the developer or to any other party.

Data you enter or capture — division, location names and GPS coordinates, weather observations (dry bulb, relative humidity, wind speed/gusts, sky cover, notes), aspect and slope inputs used for fire-danger calculations (including readings estimated from your device's compass and motion sensors), incident names and dates, and your position in the IRPG reference — is written to a local database (SQLite) stored in the app's private storage on your device. It never leaves the device on its own.

When you choose to share or export

The app includes Share, Export, and Print functions for weather logs and reports, built on your device's native share sheet and print dialog. These only run when you tap them, and you choose the destination — email, messaging app, AirDrop, a printer, another app on your device.

We are not a party to that transfer. Once a share or export leaves the app, it's governed by whatever destination you sent it to, not by us.

Analytics, advertising, and third parties

None are integrated into this app. No analytics SDK, no crash-reporting service, no advertising network, and no third-party tracking library is bundled with Wildland Fire Pro. We don't know how you use the app beyond what your device's app store reports to you, the user, in its own dashboard.

Permissions

Wildland Fire Pro requests two device permissions. Both are optional, and both are only used at the moment you tap a specific button in the Weather Calculator or Weather Log screens:

  • Location (While Using the App) — lets you tag a weather observation with GPS coordinates and pull a rough GPS-based elevation estimate, via the "Use Current Location" and "Use GPS Elevation" buttons.
  • Motion & Fitness (device motion/orientation) — lets you estimate slope percent and aspect (the direction a slope faces) from your device's compass and tilt sensors, via the "Capture Aspect & Slope" button.

Neither permission is used to track you in the background, build a location history, or send anything off your device. The values you capture are simply written into the log entry you're creating, stored locally like everything else in the app, and are never transmitted to us or anyone else. Denying either permission just means those capture buttons won't work — every field can still be entered by hand. The app does not request access to your camera, contacts, microphone, or photo library.

Data retention and deletion

Your data stays on your device for as long as the app is installed. You can delete individual entries from within the app, or remove all app data at once by deleting the app through your device's normal uninstall process. Because nothing is stored remotely, there is no copy for us to retain or delete on our end.

Children's privacy

Wildland Fire Pro is a professional field tool aimed at wildland fire personnel and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13, and any location or motion-sensor data captured stays on the device — it is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it. Material changes — such as adding a permission, an account system, or any form of data transmission — will be called out clearly rather than folded in silently.

Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using Wildland Fire Pro (the "App"), you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you don't agree, don't use the App.

What the app is

Wildland Fire Pro provides an offline Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG) reference viewer and a fire-weather logging tool, including dry bulb/relative humidity/wind entry, Probability of Ignition and fire-danger calculations, and a formatted radio broadcast script generator for reading weather observations to a division.

Not a substitute for official guidance

This app is a reference and productivity aid, not an authority. IRPG content is reproduced from National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) public reference material for convenience. In any conflict, discrepancy, or doubt, the current official printed or agency-issued IRPG and your agency's protocols govern — not this app.

Fire-weather calculations, Probability of Ignition figures, and any other computed values are estimates based on the inputs you provide. They are intended to support, not replace, trained judgment, direct observation, and your agency's fire behavior and safety protocols, including LCES (Lookouts, Communications, Escape Routes, Safety Zones).

Your responsibilities

  • Verify weather and fire-behavior figures against direct observation and official sources before acting on them.
  • Enter accurate data — the app can't correct for a mistyped dry bulb or slope reading.
  • Follow your agency's chain of command, protocols, and radio procedures; use this app as a supplement, not a replacement.
  • Keep the app and your device in working order; don't rely on any single tool as your only source of fire weather in the field.

No warranty

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or merchantability. Wildland fire environments are dynamic and dangerous; no software can account for every condition.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any injury, loss, damage, or claim — direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential — arising from use of, or inability to use, the App, including reliance on any calculation, reference content, or broadcast script it produces.

Intellectual property

IRPG reference material originates from NWCG public reference publications. The App's software, design, and original content are owned by the developer. You may use the App for personal and professional field use; you may not redistribute, resell, or reverse-engineer it.

Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. These terms remain in effect for as long as you use the App and survive with respect to any use that already occurred.

Governing law

These terms are governed by applicable United States law, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, to the extent not superseded by the terms of the app store platform (Apple App Store or Google Play) through which you obtained the App.

Changes to these terms

Terms may be updated as the App changes. The "Last updated" date above reflects the current version; continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
